Dictionary.com defines “glamorous” in two ways. 1 – full of glamour; charming or fascinatingly attractive, especially in a mysterious or magical way, and 2 – full of excitement, adventure, and activity.
As I went searching for a glamorous person today, I was really stumped…I don’t pay too much attention to celebrities, and everyone glamorous I thought of was dead. Then my daughter turned on the television after work and supplied my answer: The drag queens on RuPaul’s Drag Race! These ladies really fit the definition, especially the “mysterious or magical” part. And although at first glance this reality show looks pretty fluffy and rather strange, the contest format gives the audience an opportunity to watch the contestants grow and improve (not to mention sending some hard-working queen home at the end of the season $100,000 richer). There’s always a back story, and the competition truly is transformative for the contestants. And it is fun to watch!
The other candidate for the “glamorous” title today is my favorite erotic cartoon character (sitting sweetly on the front of my tee-shirt right at this moment), Omaha the Cat Dancer. This sophisticated lovely, drawn by the team of Reed Waller and Kate Worley in the 1970’s and 1980’s, is an anthropomorphic female stripper who dances at the “Kitty Korner Club”. She is surrounded by a cast of shady characters, and definitely lives a life “full of excitement, adventure, and activity”.
Tomorrow’s A-Z Challenge letter is H. We’ll see where that goes!

Love the tee-shirt and the concept of glamour. Interesting that men dressing as women cultivate this. For women, it’s so loaded. Unfortunate. I think glamour is really underrated!

I think quite often women — especially young women — confuse being glamorous with being sexy. The drag queens seem to understand the difference! – Fawn

I thought the days of glamour were gone for ever. It used to be fun to dress up like a lady.

I think that is why women enjoy afternoon tea. It is the perfect opportunity to dress up and use our “white gloves and party manners”. Part of me really misses having it be a regular way of life, though. – Fawn

There seems to be so few occasions to dress up. I had a wedding to go to two weeks ago and do you think I could find a dress to wear? I went to the back of my closet and pulled out a lovely yellow dress I had worn to my son’s wedding some twenty years ago. It still fit and it looked fantastic compared to what was for sale.

It was probably nicer quality than what was for sale, too! – Fawn

You better believe it. I think they have stopped designing for older women.
