Tonight’s Helping One Woman (HOW) dinner was yet another example of this community’s generosity, and the power of women helping other women and their families. Tonight’s celebration had a different feel to it, as our honoree passed away early last week. But her family’s need was still as great, even though the focus had shifted slightly. Rather than being sad and subdued, the honoree’s family and friends who were there shared her life with joy and positivity.
Dinner was delicious, there were inspirational silent auction items donated (including a box of fresh apricots and a newly-baked apricot pie), and the vendors were out in force. The emphasis was not on how horrible it was that the honoree had been taken too soon from her friends and family, but that she had been so loved and so loving during her time here on earth.
Every month the layout and details of the dinner are a little bit different: silent auction or not, tricky tray drawings or not, 50/50 drawing…all these things add to the success of the evening. And, other than serving food a bit later than usual to allow for the arrival of a tardy family member, everything about the dinner was just about perfect.
And we get to do it all again next month. If you are nearby, there will be room for you at the Marriott Hotel Downtown on the third Tuesday of July. The more the merrier.
