Tomorrow our congregation will have a new missional adventure, thanks to a visit from our Bishop David Rice. Since his arrival from New Zealand, he has made it very clear that he wants to see more than what churches in our Diocese are saying, believing, or planning — he wants to see what we are doing in our communities. Beyond that, Bishop Rice wants to do it with us.
So we will meet in our community garden, weeding and then harvesting vegetables to share with seniors and families in need. Then we will continue to The Bethlehem Center to prepare and serve lunch to hungry friends on the North side. Tomorrow’s forecast is a stifling 106 degrees, and The Bethlehem Center will be staying open to serve as a cooling center for those who otherwise would be outside in the heat. What better place or way to share God’s love through service?
None of these activities are new to us, as they are ongoing projects…they are just being seen through new eyes.
