Well, after I outed myself last night by admitting on Facebook that I had never made it all the way through a Jane Austin novel, my cousin Lenita Virtue shamed me into giving her another chance. I guess it is rather ridiculous that someone who will read almost everything from cereal boxes to fine print in contracts doesn’t know Austin’s iconic characters by heart.
So after taking a “What Jane Austin heroine are you?” quiz and being tagged as Catherine Morland, I visited the library today to check out Northanger Abbey and started reading about her. Since the volume I chose was a “Norton Critical Edition”, today’s selection was Susan Fraiman’s introduction. Tonight I will get started on the novel itself.
I’ll let you know what I think later.

Ms. Austen’s period language can be tough to read through. And there were many times I wanted to smack ELizabeth in the head. After I read, Pride and Prejudice, I purchased Pride, Prejudice and Zombies because I loved the cover art! I never read it though 😉

I think that was my issue the first time I tried to read Emma…I seriously wanted to choke most of the players! When I was still at Woodville, Pride, Prejudice and Zombies was in our Book Fair inventory, and a few of our most accomplished readers snatched it up. But I don’t do zombies! – Fawn

I don’t really do zombies either. My son loves the, Walking Dead. I think dead people eating live people or other dead people is icky even though I love my monsters. I do love the movie, Shaun of the Dead – it’s a black zombie comedy of sorts – with really only 1 disgusting scene (I always close my eyes when it plays). It’s Funny and allows me to say, I’ve seen a zombie movie and laughed in the face of fear. 😉
Good luck reading P&P…

I’m giggling, AnnMarie, because I have seen Shaun of the Dead — not by choice, mind you, but because my neighbor and his daughter were watching it one winter afternoon and I wandered across the street to visit. It was pretty ridiculous, and I won’t be watching it again!

I love Simon Pegg…and Shaun made me laugh, but it was icky too – well, the one scene with the pub window.
Have you ever watched – Run, Fat Boy, Run – also Simon Pegg – if you haven’t – try it. Very funny and warm too

Fear Momfawn,
I still read your daily posts with anticipation! Some make me laugh, dome cry, most fall inbetween in a place where revelations are gleened or familiarity abounds. Today – Jane Austin! I have to share, I too have never been show to finish a book of hers. She is wonderful and gave women more than most know, however, the actual read for me is dry…. However, IF you haven’t seen Austinland the movie, set aside a time for yourself when you need a good laugh. I thought the movie unexpectedly delightful!
Thank you for all you share!
