The countdown to summer vacation has started at our house. Yesterday Olivia had the double milestones of “graduating” from Preschool and celebrating her fifth birthday. Now she is eagerly awaiting the Alice in Wonderland tea party we are holding for Olivia and Lily…one week from tomorrow. I will miss my interactions with the other moms and grandmothers, and I will especially miss my visits with the preschool director. (I will not miss driving all the way across town and back twice every Tuesday and Thursday!)
Lily is counting the school days left until summer, too. Because she is off on Memorial Day, she only has nine school days to go. She is beyond excited about summer vacation, although I have a feeling she will be complaining she has nothing to do by the second day off! She, too, is counting the days to their Alice in Wonderland tea party, and figuring out which of her invited friends will be able to come. It is recital time, too, and for the next two weeks her dance lessons will be strictly rehearsing for her recital numbers. And then for the fourth wonderful thing: Two days after the recital will be her ninth birthday.
My countdown is to Close To My Heart’s North American convention at the Disneyland Hotel in early July (47 days, 8 hours, and 27 minutes from now, according to the countdown clock on our website). This was such an amazing adventure last summer that there is no way I would miss it again. And CTMH Corporate is sweetening the pot with several amazing drawings: Two tickets for our incentive cruise (to the Eastern Caribbean next spring); Two tickets for the Australasian Convention, to be held beginning on my birthday in October. A lucky augury, you think? And the final giveaway will be a ticket to Album Retreat in November in Utah. I still think having the convention in Brisbane, Australia, beginning on my birthday in October, will be a very happy incentive.
Do you have someone special graduating or taking a special trip this summer? Feel free to share in the comments below. – 🙂

Counting down to lots of special events – and when they arrive, how they whiz right by.
I remember when my last kiddie graduated preschool. I was quite sad to know, I would no longer be entertained by giant cartoon dinosaurs and wonderful colors! So many of the schools beyond have horrid color schemes – I guess industrial/institutional paint is a heck of a lot cheaper 😉
You have so many wonderful things to look forward to – capped off by a DIsney adventure!
I always look forward to the summer knowledge – that no kiddie is worrying over exams, and we have no plans but our own!
Happy Memorial Day to you.

When we were kids, all the mothers counted the days until school started and their kids would be gone all day. All but ours, that is — she much preferred having us at home to play with.
When I started teaching Kindergarten, I was saddened to realize that “centers” (the kitchen center, the huge building blocks center, the reading corner) had lost their popularity, and been replaced by regimented desks and chairs. I am happy to report, though, that Olivia’s elementary school still believes in colorful, busy classrooms. – Fawn

I too, miss the kiddies when they go off to school (I’m sure you did/do as well) – even though they are adultish. It’s nice to hear Olivia’s school is bright – that makes my heart glad
