These days it seems to be chic to bemoan and bewail the use of social media, especially Facebook. Detractors say it is too negative, too strident, and too drama-filled. And for some, perhaps, it is.
But I love Facebook! I love it for the connections I make with family, friends, and friends-of-friends. I am encouraged by the memes of hope and joy, the beautiful gardens and fabulous foods. The news stories are often horrifying, certainly, but for each horrible story I can read countless tales of courage and kindness.
This afternoon I started moving the already downloaded photographs (from my phone) into folders by month and year. It may take me forever to finish, but I am determined to get them uploaded and printed so that I can scrapbook them. That won’t happen until I know where they are.
While taking a little break, I wandered over to my sister’s Facebook page to grab a few pictures from her last visit. Of course, I ended up looking at every single photograph in her albums. It does my heart good to see her with Daddy and know they were only three hours away.
Right now I am following (and encouraging) the Facebook adventures of a friend who has moved to New Mexico for a total change of scene, and appears to be thriving! I’m also watching as another friend moves her small business from craft sales to a growing on-line store, and another whose elderly mother is healing from surgery. I love being able to add encouraging notes to their posts and pray for them along their journeys.
And perhaps the best bonus is being able to “meet” the children and spouses of my generation of cousins. It is a delight to watch their schooling, their career choices, and still be here online for backup.
Sweet dreams.

Morning Fawn-
I hope this morning finds you mending well.
I do like FB for all the reasons you’ve mentioned. I removed the folks who seemed to enjoy taking infinite selfies – a few lovely ladies were completely immersed in selfie world – I had to keep the scroll button depressed to pass them to reach the great stuff you speak of 🙂 FB is fantastic for the family and friends connection!
My mother-in-law just sold her home in Navajo Dam, NM and will be coming back here end of September to live with us. I know she will ll miss the Big Sky that is the glory of the southwest 🙂
Happy Wednesday to you!

I am great, AnnMarie, except from feeling as though there is a target on my vehicle as I drive. I think that will take a while to go away. I hope that you and your mother-in-law will be able to enjoy being under the same roof the way Nick and I have. It takes conscious effort and lots of communication, but it can be so very rewarding in all directions. It will definitely be a huge change for her, though…I can’t imagine leaving the wide open spaces for the city. But being with family is such a good thing. Happy Wednesday to you, too. – Fawn

I remember long ago, I had a bad car accident – and that nervous feeling will go away sooner than you think.
Karole is a terrific lady, I know we will make it work. As changes go, we’ll all have to find our groove 🙂
And I’m not in the city. I’m about an hour away – there are cows and horses where I am – but no big sky like New Mexico.

I’ve had mixed feelings about Facebook for a long time, but lately I’ve been connecting with writers and creators on the site, which has been really inspiring to me. I figure Facebook is like any other tool. Not every tool is for everyone and how you use it matters.

That is so very true, Andrea. Some people seem to delight in focusing on all the negativity, but there are so many talented writers, artists, and crafters to visit and learn with. AnnMarie, I think I’m glad you are not in the city. I like the idea of cows and countryside around to inspire you. – Fawn
