I am running away from home this weekend in the company of 25 or so assorted other women — some I know, some just waiting to become friends. We will be hidden away at the Koinania Christian Camp in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains of California. The biggest challenge for me (besides not taking every scrapbooking project I own) will be the total absence of Internet and cell phone service all weekend. There is a land line in the office in case of emergency, which should be all we need, but I am pretty thoroughly tethered to my electronic media. I know the break will be good for me…if nothing else but to make me appreciate my phone and computer on a daily basis!
I’m taking my Cricut Expressions2 along, hoping to spend some time getting to know my way around it in the company of women who use theirs on a daily basis. I have been rather afraid of it, I guess “timid” would be a better word, having only taken it out of its box two or three times in the four years since I bought it. But every time I see the cards and scrapbook pages created from our Close To My Heart Cricut cartridges, I get all excited about learning how to use mine. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
My friend Jen posted on her Facebook page that she is looking forward to spending the weekend her sweatpants. I’ve been so engrossed in choosing my projects that I haven’t even thought about clothes, although my Clothing Fairy boxes included a lovely pair of yoga pants that will end up in my backpack now that she reminded me. What a lovely thought — choosing clothes just for comfort’s sake!
I will miss my family and my electronics this weekend, but will enjoy reconnecting with myself.

Have a great time getting away and being creative! It will be strange knowing we won’t be able to text for the weekend. I’ll look forward to hearing about your weekend when you get back. This weekend I’ll be at Leah’s. Can hardly wait to see her and Rob! Have fun and be safe!

So you will be having too much fun to be texting me, anyway! Hug Leah for me and tell her I can’t wait to meet Rob. I think it is time for a trip to California to see her dear old Aunt Fawn! – Me

Hi Fawn,
An entire group with no electronics for an entire weekend sounds like heaven here on earth. I’m jealous. And not only that, I don’t even have 25 friends – I might not have 5 😉
Put those huggable yoga pants on and go – enjoy, chat, relax, craft to your heart is content.
AM 🙂

I will have pictures to share once I’m back in electronics land! One thing I have discovered, AnnMarie, is that is really easy to make friends with a scrapbook in your hand. Happy Weekend! – Fawn

Fawn, have a great weekend! You’ll come back so renewed — and probably you’ll have a new perspective on technology as well. 🙂 I once had my Communications students do a project where they had to give up all forms of media (social, TV, etc.) for I think it was just 24 hours (maybe longer?) and they all moaned. But when they wrote their papers, they all said how much they enjoyed being “unplugged.” So, you’ll see how it works for you. And enjoy scrapbooking in your new wardrobe! Have fun! 🙂

It truly is a double-edged sword, Deb. Being unconnected is very refreshing, but then I find I have a mad scramble to “catch up” with the things I missed. It is definitely a bad habit, but it is mine. I need to leave in 36 minutes, and I’m sitting here with freshly washed and soggy hair, not quite packed. Oh joy! – Fawn
